From your friends at Bethany House

It's that time of year when we honor mothers and celebrate their special role in the world. It's no secret if you're reading this letter, you have a mom. Regardless of your relationship with your mom, she gave you the gift of life. That is always something to celebrate.

I doubt there are too many people who would dare claim that 'mothering' is an easy job. Most mothers could create a ten page resume, highlighting their daily duties and unique skill sets.

Unfortunately, there are many young women, moms-to-be, who have no clue about any motherhood 'resume'. Their pregnancies were unplanned and they are unprepared for the challenges being a mom brings.

Scared, alone, and possibly even homeless, with no education or viable employment, these young women are unequipped to care for themselves, let alone another new life. Thankfully, for the past thirty years, Bethany House has stood in the gap for moms like these.

We have helped hundreds of women step into the role of motherhood with renewed hope and faith, as well as, tangible, life skills that have allowed them to blossom into successful mothers. Time and time again, we hear how without Bethany House, these women would have never taken the steps needed to improve their lives. Today, after thirty years, many of our original mothers now have grandchildren! Cycles of poverty, addiction, hopelessness, and abuse have been broken!

Would you like to help a young woman embrace and celebrate motherhood? Does what happens to children matter to you? If so, it might be time this Mother's Day to get involved. Now is the perfect opportunity as we continue to look to the future and expanding our services to help even more women and children. There is a housing crisis in our community, and even working families are being forced to move, some unable to find affordable housing. There are simply too many of us who have been blessed to leave women and children helpless and homeless.

Bethany House helped one woman, who was living in a cardboard box and suffering with a horrible kidney infection, have safe pregnancy. She was so grateful to have a warm bed and food to eat. Another was addicted to heroin and had been prostituting to survive; we were able to provide shelter and transfer her into a treatment program better suited to meet her more in-depth needs. Not all cases are so frightening, but some are indeed traumatic. Other women have been turned away by family or are escaping abusive boyfriends. The stories are heartbreaking. BUT…change is possible. Together we can make a difference.

First we want to thank you for your support, your prayers, and for caring about mothers and their children. Secondly, we'd like to challenge you to join us and help make our mission possible. We might not be able to serve everyone, but the women we do help, will never forget our generosity and love. Please make this Mother's Day a celebration for mothers who might otherwise be defeated. We truly can and will continue to touch two lives at a time and generations beyond with God's love.

With Love, Beth Rhinehart and your friends at Bethany House!
